All Fun & Games

It was a nice Sunday afternoon at the Superskills competition yesterday. It was an unbelievable turn-out and it really proves how much the Oilers mean to our community. The numbers for a skills competition destroys some of the numbers that the American arenas get for so many of their games.

You got an opportunity to see another side of the Oilers that you don't see normally (well, maybe with the exception of Marty). All of them were laughing and just playing around with each other. And smiles all around. I do
love Sykora's. He's just so darn cute. Missed Jussi (would've been nice to see him opposite Roli) and Steve. Get better soon guys!

It was also touching to see the family men of the group. Smytty (as expected) walking around on the ice holding his daughters' hands, Horcoff carrying his tiny daughter and the cutest scene of all, Roli's sons (in matching t-shirts). As you'll see in the
pictures that people on the Oilers' forum so generously posted, one of his sons was walking around in a mini version of his daddy's mask and pads. Hands down, one of the most adorable things I've ever seen. I'm not completely sure, but Staios's and Moreau's sons may have also been together on the bench. Well, probably since they were wearing tiny crested shirts.

Staios is Staying

For four more years. Yay!

Steve: "You have to take less to stay in a place you love." Awwww.....

Home Sweet Home

Wow, that was just great hockey last night. An excellent effort by our Oilers. They were passing the puck well and finally our power play comes alive! One PP goal away from tying the franchise record. And poor Pisani finally gets a goal.

I am just amazed at how Ryan Smyth plays. Just driving and driving at the puck like a possessed man. Boy, we would be an almost invincible team if all the guys played with such determination and persistence. And he's such a sweetie too. Truly the face of the Oilers.

Have You Ever Been Starstruck By an Oiler?

I definitely was yesterday when I went to the Jason Smith/Steve Staios (filling in for our quickly recovering Ryan Smyth) autograph signing. I'm embarassed to admit that I made sure to try to look my best beforehand - my most compliment-getting pair of jeans, carefully applied glossy lipstick. It was like getting ready for a date...*sigh* I wish. I have been fortunate enough before to have met Steve by chance once before and was hoping to make a better impression this time. To actually have the guts to chat him up.

Well, it turns out, I was trembling like a leaf the entire time and I managed to mutter a few words of adoration that I'm not even sure he heard. Yup, I was as smooth as a week-old playoff beard. And it's not like he's intimidating at all either. He always seems to be so sweet. I actually think Jason Smith is more intimidating to speak with. It's just the whole "man of my dreams" and his mindblowing hotness that got to me. Steve looked like he was enjoying his time there a lot more than Jason was. Here are some visuals of the event.

Road Loss Streak Finally Broken!

Yay!! Finally, some real Oilers hockey to watch and some big smiles on the guys' faces to see at the end of the game. Yeah, it was Columbus but a win's a win. Was hoping Smytty would get another hat trick but that's just being greedy. The first few minutes had me scared but luckily the guys picked it up after.

Svitov, what the *f*?! Yeah he definitely should've been thrown out but once again, justice against the Oilers prevails. Great to see Thoresen jump in like that. Good thing Smid was fine. The boy's just been amazing this season. And I'm sure we owe some thanks to his studly mentor for contributing to that. Well, I guess MacT's tactics worked and hopefully, the boys keep this up. At least now they gained a little more confidence back. Oh, Horcoff....I'm still rooting for you. I know you still have it in you.

BTW, it was very honorable what Calgary did last night. Good to know that our hatred for Pronger can unite a province. Well, when we're not playing each other anyway.

Moving on to a different topic, I found another video of Moreau and Staios on After Hours together. This was back in April. Thanks to the person who posted it on youtube because I never caught it on TV. Hahaha, man that is a bad, bad picture of Ethan. Boy does he make me laugh sometimes though (i.e., Simon Cowell question). And I don't think Staios's shorts could've ridden up any higher.

Warning to anyone else who has a crush on Steve. *Sigh* The clip on the ballroom dancing is a heartbreaker. I like living in my silly dreamworld where there is never a mention or sign of his wife. A glimpse of reality...*sigh* Regardless, he sure looks absolutely gorgeous in a suit...

And the Bandwagon Keeps Getting Lighter and Lighter...

"(Hemsky) was treating giveaways like doughnuts," said MacTavish. "And he ordered a dozen of them early."

Ouch! Pretty harsh for him to single Hemsky out, seeing that the entire team, with the exception of Roloson, most definitely did not play the much quoted "full 60 minutes." More like 3. Hmmm...I wonder how many minutes they'll play tomorrow???

MacT Fund

It's great to see how once again, the Oilers bring our city of Edmonton together. Actually turning a horrid situation into something positive. The Bear radio station is trying to raise $10,000 to give to MacT on behalf of all the Oilers fans for being our spokesperson. The Battle of Alberta blog also has the same goal in mind and for those of you who don't live here, you can make a contribution through PayPal on their site. Kudos to both of these groups for their efforts!

Robbed and robbed again!

I think I'm all sworn out now from last night. Our poor, poor Oilers subjected to such blatant injustice...totally inexcusable, unacceptable, a travesty and yet the saddest thing is, there's not a damn thing anybody can do. And now for the icing the cake, MacT has to pay $10,000 US for his "inappropriate" comments on Maggot. I must say as expected, it was very entertaining to listen to what he had to say on the incident. It was pretty unbelievable how well he and the players handled the interviews afterwards. It must have taken every ounce of discipline in them to keep from exploding in balls of rage in front of the camera.

The link below goes to a petition that someone started (what else can us little people do?) to get Maggot fired. Of course, it probably won't do a thing (especially since it loses its credibility with all the profanity strewn throughout), but I signed it anyway. Why not, you never know. Although I would much rather have the league open their eyes to the obvious need for them to adjust their ridiculous rules so that the Oilers were somehow compensated. You guys picked the wrong city to mess with!

When Oilers Don't Look Hot

Okay, so we lost the game yesterday and yes, it was a disappointment. These people who are seriously doubting the Oilers now need to get over it. Hockey should be fun to watch. No point stressing about it.

Anyway, on a lighter note, check out the above video. I know, this is the third video I've posted already but there's just been some really good Oilers postings on youtube lately. You'll really understand the video if you've seen the roster on the Oilers official site. The guys' sense of humor just makes them all the more sexy to me. For even more hilarious analysis on more players' pictures (and comments that they would never air on tv), the link below goes to the thread on the website's forum.

My Favourite Pair of Friends

This is a video of Ethan and Steve on After Hours during the playoffs. I had watched this on TV then and was hoping someone would post it on youtube. Luckily, someone finally did. The banter between these two is always fun to listen to. Miss you, Ethan! Most of what they say in the video doesn't really matter anymore so this is pretty much for your viewing pleasure. Enjoy!

Yay, another flattering article about Stevie. Finally he's getting the attention he deserves. Check out the link below.

Looking forward to the game tonight...it feels like it's been a while...
